IPL isn't technically a laser, it's broadband light that scatters across many targets, which makes it excellent and economical for surface pigmentation and redness. A laser delivers one precise wavelength with more power, which makes it better for deeper texture, lines, and scars (with more downtime). For sun spots and rosacea-type redness, most people start with IPL; for etched lines and scarring, a laser does more.
